 ABOUT

This humorous spectacle isn’t your ordinary feast.

FOOD invites you into an amusing and, at times, bizarre world of consumption. Fueled by our very own appetite for more.

What begins as a simple act of eating gradually transforms into a maniacal, almost mechanical ritual. We watch as the boundaries between desire and necessity blur, giving rise to something grotesque, surprising, and disturbingly hypnotic. Through acrobatics and object manipulation, these witty circus performers create a vivid physical language. One that questions not just their own, but perhaps even our collective consumption habits – habits subtly shaped by desires that may not be entirely our own.

Keuze van de criticus

"It's quite possible that I've already seen the best show of the season."

Wendy Lubberding - Theaterkrant

"FOOD could be summed up very simply as a crescendo of chaos.

Great fun and some ingenious moments."

Arts Talk Magazine

"With FOOD, circus theater maker Michael Zandl has created an appealing, clever performance about the temptations of food and overconsumption. It is hilarious how the interior comes to life and literally bursts at the seams."
★★★★

Annette Embrechts - de Volkskrant

Every now and then, a performance emerges that makes even the most seasoned circus-enthusiast marvel at the smallest things like a child. ‘FOOD’ by Austrian director Michael Zandl is one such performance.

With sardonic pleasure, Michael Zandl holds up a mirror to our consumer behavior.
FOOD certainly taps into enough layers to make you pause and reflect.

Like a walk-in painting, the stage of “Food” is constantly transforming—between a refrigerator, picture frames, and architectural magic, a poetic world emerges, filled with wonder and desire.
